Food allergies and food sensitivities are completely different.
An allergy is an immediate hypersensitivity, a food sensitivity is a delayed sensitivity.
This can make some food sensitivities difficult to diagnose. They can present themselves through GI issues - such as gas or bloating or even in skin. An example of this common in children is eczema.
Allergies and food sensitivities can both run in families. The most common foods that result in allergies and/or sensitivities are gluten, dairy, corn, soy and eggs.
Some research shows that early introduction to foods can prevent food sensitivity later on in life. Additionally for everyone - eating a variety of foods can prevent food sensitivities from happening at any stage of life.
Introduce new foods carefully to children if you know of any family allergies/ sensitivities and continue to eat a wide array of foods through every stage of life.
